Protect Yourself from Fraud

Taking care when managing your money online and offline will protect you from being a victim of fraud. Here are some simple tips to follow:

  • Select a BDCU Alliance Bank password and change it from time to time. This password helps our staff identify you when you telephone us or visit a BDCU Alliance Bank Centre
  • Never pre-sign cheques and make sure you store cheque books in a safe place
  • Memorise your login details
  • Keep your tablet and computer updated with the lastest software and security updates
  • When using an ATM be discreet, make sure no one else can see your pin number and only use ATMs where you feel safe
  • Keep tabs on your transaction history, regularly check your history to make sure you are familiar with the transactions. If you find one you don't recognise, contact us immediately
  • Register for one time passwords. A one time password is simple to use and is a unique verifier to help prevent unauthorised access to your accounts.

Western Union Business Solutions have provided some tips on staying safe when transferring money online and overseas:

Never send money to someone you don't know or who you don't have a business relationship with.

Do not transfer money to unknown or unverified persons who ask funds:

  • For an emergency situation you haven't confirmed
  • For an online purchase
  • For anti-virus protection
  • For a deposit or payment on a rental property
  • To claim lottery or prize winnings
  • To pay taxes
  • For a donation to charity
  • For a mystery shopping assignment
  • For a job opportunity
  • For a credt card or loan fee
  • To resolve an immigration matter

Transferring funds overseas often involves a network of intermediary banks. Once funds are transferred, it is often difficult (if all possible) to cancel or recall transactions, even if you are the victim of fraud. Be alert!

Even the most streetwise or business-savvy person can fall victim to fraud if they let their guard down.

If you think that you have been a victim of fraud contact BDCU Alliance Bank immediately (02) 4860 4000. Don't delay!
